I'm going to be a Granny!!

Getting ready for Cape Town's winter 2013

It is now official, although we have known for over 3 weeks, the happy couple wanted to get through their first official scan and see for themselves!  So now I can broadcast it to the WWW - I'm going to be a Granny and the needles have been busy since the day after they told us. In between prepping for classes, I have managed to finish a jacket for "Squnkey" and the second one is almost there. The wool in the pack is for a lovely blanket. Still have to wait for the sex of Squnkey - Neil and Caro's nick name of their baby! Will be great once I can break out in colour, but for now they are adamant that no boy of theirs will wear pink, so I had better behave myself and stay neutral. God knows when the time is right, so no one is questioning this wondrous happening so early in their marriage. Both being in their 30's, the time is so right for them!
Thank you our darlings for making our dream come true - we will be the best Grandparents we know how!

Wedding Invitations

 I share my card making passion with a group of ladies every month and this Saturday we will be making 'different' invitations. 
One thing I have learnt when you pass on your knowledge to others is that what you like is not always what they like and never more so does this apply, than to greeting cards. With that in mind, and given the ladies who want to learn about invitations, I have to put my own taste aside and design what appeals to others.
So this group will be making the two cards below. The long one is actually a wallet card that has been glitzed up with all things shiny and feathers. I used kraft board for the wallet and the die cuts were made out of hand made paper, using X-Cut dies. The inserts, and there can be lots of them in this wallet, are all kraft board onto black card.
The second card is a four-flap card (my description...lol). This was made using shimmer card and the outer card was embellished with hand made paper with a suede floral pattern. Very sumptuous, as both these cards are. I'm looking forward to feed back from my ladies - I hope I have hit the button on the nose this time and left my own preferences in my pocket!! What do your think??

Dad's Birthday Card

Following on from the last posting, I want to share the card I made for Dad.

I used the design supplied by Jo Gorge on our RSA Birthday get-away last month.

It is one of those fancy folded cards and I loved the versatility of it. I was able to use up different off cuts of card stock in my stash. Great card for using scraps. I cut the 80 with PTI's fabulous number dies and the stamps used were designed to go with these dies.

 Inside, I applied a Fab Scraps board cut out on the left inner and the right inner, I used a photo of the four of us taken at Neil's wedding. 

I will certainly use this design again and again. Thanks Jo for sharing!

Home Again......

.... after the most wonderful 10 days of family, fun and shopping!
We went up to Johannesburg to join up with my sister, brother and his family, to celebrate my darling Dad's 80th birthday! It was a blast. We stayed with my Dad and Step mom in Johannesburg and on Easter Sunday morning, after celebrating the wonder of the risen Lord, we motored through to Pretoria. My brother and his amazing wife, put together a spread fit for a 'king' on Easter Sunday, which happened to be Dad's birthday as well. We ate, and laughed, ate and laughed some more, shared happy moments, past and present, cried a little, ate a little more and just celebrated two momentous occasions for me, my Risen Lord and my Blessed Father here on earth. Dad was on form and had us in stitches and tears, but happy tears. Here is a photo of my 'King on Earth' getting into the swing of it all.

It was a lovely time, enjoyed by all. I'm looking  forward to seeing the rest of the photo's from my family. I'm sure they also captured some fun and that their photo's will be better than mine!


Now, in between all this build-up to the big birthday, I managed to get some 'retail therapy' done. My DH was the most amazing husband on this earth. He fetched and carried, waited patiently and on the odd occasion, not so patiently (not that I blame him), got tangled up with GPS instructions, bad directions from me (typical) but got me where I wanted to go and waited for me to finish my 'therapy'. I cannot believe that he did all this for me, and so lovingly too! How blessed am I??
I will fill you in with all that I did and what I saw and bought another time, but for now, a photo of my desk loaded with my purchases. I have removed what I bought and brought back for friends. Now, before you fall off your perch, I have been saving for month's for this splurge, so don't judge me harshly! I don't get to 'see' the goods before I buy on line, so you must understand that the 'eye candy' was just too much to resist. Jokes aside, I had waited to actually see a lot of the goodies before I bought.
Thanks to Paola (mwaah), Joyce in Nicky's absence and Joan for patiently seeing to my 'therapy medication' - take one if you like it!! lol

Oh my Word!!!!!! Thank heavens some is hidden.....lol

Tomorrow morning, I will wade my way through this stash, find a home for it all - now that is going to be a problem, but I'll manage, so don't even ask..... - and settle down with copious cups of tea/coffee whilst I wade my way through my emails - see below!

So dear friends, it may be a few days before things get back to 'normal' and with classes to prep for, my time will be rather short on the blogging side of things. Can't wait to share more with you...

Upright Z-Fold Card

The last of the 'fancy folds' class was this Upright Z-Fold card.
This is another very simple economical card that uses up left overs as well. 
I used a stamp from a Unity flower set on this card, but in class we used a Hero Arts stamp called Silhouette Spray, which is very similar to this image. It was stamped using  Versamark Watermark ink and embossed with white embossing powder. The Martha Stewart Garden Rail punch as used on the base of the white card as well as the edge of the sentiment tag on the inside of the card, which I never took a photo of...;0((
The background white with black flowers, is from a set from W & M. Lovely pack of papers - Black and White theme.  A charm and pearl was added together with some pretty ribbon and that finished off the card perfectly. Another big hit!!
